The CFBS IELTS Tutorials

Tutorials are 2 hours in duration and cover the IELTS mix of reading, writing, speaking and listening, depending on your individual need. If you wish to improve on a particular aspect of reading, writing, speaking or listening, just let us know. We will personalise your tutorial to your own personal needs.

Apart from building vocabulary, improving examination strategies and working through practice tests, we work on:

Listening skillsImproving listening skills and spoken word recognition.Learning how to skim the questions in advance of the audio and listen for the required answers in the spoken audio.Identifying and noting key information during listening exercises.Learning to recognise spoken information that is likely to be the subject of an examination question.

Reading skillsRecognising and highlighting key information in written text.Identifying key data in graphs, tables, charts and statistics (for academic tests).Learning how to “skim read” paragraphs and note the general topic of the paragraph so you can identify what an appropriate heading might be.Increasing your vocabulary so you can understand words in sentences and written material.Practising the various answer styles, ie True / Not True / Not Given

Writing skillsDeveloping written text on pre-determined topics and subjects that might arise in the IELTS examination.Developing a library of subject matter to use for IELTS writing tasks.Practising letter writing.Practising essay writing for IELTS tasks, especially formulating ideas and opinions and planning the structure of your essay.Correcting common errors with IELTS writing.Practising sentence structure, endings and full stops.Practising the difference between past (I was), present (I am) & future (I will) tense.Practising the difference between singular (1 cat), plural (2 cats) and possessive (the cat’s tail).Practising word endings (ie “s” & “ed”).Learning and practising coherence and cohesion (especially use of connectors, pronouns and conjunctions).Learning and practising lexical resource with writing. Learning and practising grammatical range and accuracy.We personally explain to you what your writing practice errors and required improvements are. We do not merely provide you with a correct example for you to review yourself. 
Speaking skillsDeveloping scripts for pre-determined topics and subjects that might arise in the IELTS examinationLearning techniques for quickly noting subject matter for speaking tests. We help you talk without running of ideas and repeating yourself.Practising talking on your own for 1 – 2 minutes and in conversation with your examiner.Practising the speaking tests with immediate feedback.Learning to clearly say each syllable of each word and not leave endings off.Learning to speak so your Australian tutor can understand your speech. You will receive continual feedback until your fluency and pronunciation improves.Practising conversational English and learning the common phrases and “sayings.”Learning and practising fluency and coherence (especially use of connectors, pronouns and conjunctions).Learning and practising lexical resource with speaking.Learning and practising grammatical range and accuracy.

CFBS Program Material (there are no additional costs for course materials)As required, we log onto the internet to do online IELTS examinations.We practice IELTS tests from IELTS books and CDs.You complete writing exercises we give you. We then correct your writing.We provide you with written material to practice with.We provide you with reference summaries for using;
